Me, Myself and I

I never know how to start off an introduction about myself, do I start with your common "Hey, I'm .." or do I start with a more hard hitting quote or epic first sentence. I kind of find them a little awkward in a way, like when I first try speaking to a new person, although I could quite possibly be over thinking this. I guess I'll just start with the basics.

Firstly my name as you can see is Julie Thomas, I'm a 20 year old female, born on the 8th of march 1994, a little fact about me is I was born on telly, some health or baby program I think, my mum often threatens to bring out a copy at my 21st, crazy woman she is, I think that might possibly scar me for life. I would  like to state that I'm welsh, no I can’t really speak the language, but I'm still welsh. Before moving here to Derby home was Sunny Rhyl, OK it's really not that sunny but I love the rain so it's all good, it was fairly quiet, pretty small, hardly any type of shops and honestly a little depressing most of the time. I never thought I'd move away and think "damn I miss the little depressing coastal town" but I really do, maybe that's because my amazing family consisting of a mum, a dad, two younger sisters, and two younger brothers are there. I guess there's a lot of comforts I miss and appreciate much more now that I've moved 3-4 hours away. Just writing about my family and home puts a smile on my face. Although this time around I do have the privilege of living with my best friend which gives me a lot of comfort and makes me less home sick which I'm really glad for.

A couple interesting things about me aside from the fact that I love to draw and play videos game is, I have a huge interest in Japanese culture and the language, yes I like anime, the cheesy dramas and music I mean slowly and trying, by mainly self-teaching the Japanese language, Skyping Japanese friends I have from there, and online tutorials and such. I love to read books of all kinds, sure I love a good romance but I like a good action story too. I love music all genres really and live music, I find the atmosphere amazing.

So more current information recently as I said I've moved to Derby since I am now a returning student at De Montfort University, studying Game Art Design. However I am a returning first year which I will explain maybe in another blog. I'm not too sure how I can explain my reasons for choosing this desired course and career; it’s just bits of various influences that mashed together and made sense. I think also it’s more the feeling that video games gave me, I've always been exposed to both art and video games, so I guess I grew up with them, there part of me and my childhood memories. Due to certain life changes and events I found that playing video games as I grew up and now or just drawing helped me feel freedom, a range of never ending creative possibilities where I could get lost in something that's "artsy", being able to escape reality for a little while sometimes and still be able to tell the difference between the two, I find to be a majorly big and helpful experience.
So I guess I just wanted to be one of those people that help create these amazing worlds that others could use for just pleasure or for the experience games and art gave me, yes I understand I'll probably never look at games or the art for them the way I used to and It’s going to be a lot of hard work and tears, which I've already shed a lot on the first time around, and I know I will again but it’s all worth it in the end in which is why I chose not to give up and that there is me.
