Realising some major progression

Week 1

It’s the end of my first week on the game art course at De Montfort as a first year student, and overall as a general feeling about the weeks to come, I feel pretty relaxed and excited for most of the projects we were informed of in advance.

This week for my visual design side of the course I looked at 1 point perspective an even though I understand it as I’ve previously looked at and practiced it, I still find it slightly difficult to get the right horizon line when sketching my 1 point perspective scene out. However as I completed some quick thumb nail sketches to really help set out the base and proportions on my page ready to do a final, I used to feel slightly put out by not getting straight into a final, but now I see how beneficial it is and actually feel that it also a warm up for the final piece.

One side of the course that I find really isn’t my strong point is the 3D game production side, as although I feel I know can perform the basic necessities needed in the industry for creating 3d assets, I still feel that I need to continue to practice and experiment with Photoshop as my textures lack, which doesn’t help give my finished asset some of the believability it needs. However this week was really going of the basic tools of 3Ds Max and trying to understand some of the guidelines that are in place to follow when creating 3D assets and why we follow them. I think I have a pretty good understanding of 3D modelling now and I really enjoy it which I think is an important part to have if I want this as a career, I also think that my unwrapping and Uv mapping skills are getting so much better already with the organization and tidiness of them, I think it’s actually one of my favorite parts of 3D.
